#codeforfish, celebrating Earth Day launches the Fishackathon mixer evening at the Two Oceans Aquarium on the 14th April followed by the international Fishackathon (22nd – 24th April) at Workshop 17 in partnership with MTN Solution Space at the Graduate School of Business and the U.S Department of State.

This is the 3rd year the U.S Department of State will run its annual Fishackathon expanding from 5 cities participating in 2014 to 44 cities participating in 2016.

The Fishackthon is asking industry experts (fisheries), coders, programmers, creative participants to come with out-the-box thinking with the purpose of developing usable technology solutions to address the problem of worldwide overfishing.

The 2015 Fishackathon saw submissions from different projects addressing intuitive data collation, easier access to sustainability information, tracking fish and creating a “FishDex”, geographical hazard tracking systems for the sea to name a few.
